What Is a Torque Converter?

A torque convertor is an underrated, but essential part of your car. It is the most important part of an automatic transmission (which most people drive), and substitutes the clutch in a manual transmission. It also enhances the multiplication of the turning powers within an engine. There is no link between the engine and the transmission, although they are connected by a metallic rod that is known as an input shaft.

What Does It Do?

The first thing it does is to join the input shaft and the crankshaft so the engine can get the car moving. It also helps it to stop.

What Kind of Materials Would I Need?

For your torque convertor parts, the first thing you would need is adhesive materials, such as the kind you would use for brake bonding. You will also need flat clutch assemblies and friction wafers. You will also need a multi-disc torque converter clutch pack module, because this is the main component in the engine. You will also need OE converter dampers and torque converter hubs. Finally, you will need OE thrust bearing and rods. This is basically a bearing that deals with axial force. It deals with the force that is parallel to the axis of your car.

How Would I Know There Is a Problem?

Signs that it is time to work on your torque convertor can be difficult to determine, but there are signs that it is time to repair it. The first thing to ask is if your car is overheating? Is there dirty transmission fluid? Is there slipping and shuddering? Making strange noises? Then it may be time to have your torque convertor looked over.
